Candera to be certified as first HMI tool partner for Infineon’s TRAVEO™ II Graphic Controller Family

Candera to be certified as first HMI tool partner for Infineon’s TRAVEO™ II Graphic Controller Family

February 15, 2021 – Linz/ Austria – Candera is excited to announce that it has been accredited as first certified partner within Infineon’s HMI Tool Certification Program. Infineon has designed this special evaluation program in order to ensure the best customer satisfaction and experience when using HMI software with the TRAVEO™ II Graphic Controllers.

Picture 1: Candera to be certified as first HMI tool partner for Infineon’s Traveo II-C

Since many years Candera, a leading HMI-tool provider, has been cooperating with Cypress, an Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / QTCQX: IFNNY) company in order to create the perfect HMI solutions for the TRAVEO-series, starting with the reference board Amber S6J3200 up to TRAVEO II Graphic MCUs (CYT4DNxxx). So, there was no hesitation for Candera in participating at Infineon’s latest HMI Tool Certification Program and to successfully implement the defined requirements: setting up a full virtual animated dashboard as well as a warped dual Head up Display using CGI Studio and the TVII-C CPU boards, while leveraging all the HW features that the GPU offers.

A special challenge within the virtual dashboard was the implementation of the animated media coverflow between the 2 gauges. Since all media graphics of the dashboard were only available in 2D, the whole coverflow has been realized in 2.5D, allowing a similar depth perception than 3D. For this 2.5D implementation Candera had to provide the possibility to dynamically change the transformation matrix of all objects.

Furthermore, cluster and HuD were based on 3 different layer types: IBO (Image-based operation) for traditional frame buffer drawing, LBO (Line-based operation) Increased BLIT engine performance and reduced memory and OTF (On-the-fly mode) to reduce VRAM memory consumption. All of them implemented successfully by the Candera team.

The head-up display had to be accomplished in two different modes, warping off (for projection on planar surfaces) and warping on (for projection onto the windscreen). Similar like the transformation matrix of the 2.5D use case, the distortion for the warping has been created by using the display warping feature in order to simulate the bending of the windshield.

Within this HuD use case, CGI Studio also supports the text rendering by Traveo II draw engine.

Candera is very excited to be the first certified HMI tool partner for Infineon’s TRAVEO™ II Graphics Controller.
“Infineon’s TRAVEO series has always been the perfect match for our HMI design tool CGI Studio, says Reinhard Füricht, general manager of Candera. “As certified tool partner we are more than happy enabling our mutual customers to create powerful HMI solutions with a special focus on low-memory footprint.”

Also, Sven Natus, Senior Director of the Automotive Microcontroller Business Unit at Infineon showed his appreciation “The implementation of compelling and cost competitive HMI solutions has ever been a challenge. We have been partnering with Candera for many years on the TRAVEO series. This certification now takes our partnership to the next level and enables customers to quickly and easily implement their HMI design while getting the best performance out of the system.”

Candera’s, next system’s and DATA MODUL’s haptic Multi-Scene HMI solution supports intuitive touch gestures for multiple use cases

Following several studies about the hierarchy of human senses, touch is often named as one of the most important ones after visual and auditory impulses. Therefore, it is not surprising, that not only our physical but also the artificial world can be enriched from an enhanced input of touch stimuli. The incorporation of haptics and touch feedback technology into displays and touch screens is no future trend, it has already found its way into many application fields like automotive, industry or medicine. Adding these intuitive operating concepts to static devices transforms standard UI solutions into immersive and living HMI experiences.

Based on these insights, Candera GmbH, a leading HMI tool provider, next system, a renowned expert in haptics, displays, computers and motors together with DATA MODUL, a leading partner for display technologies have merged their expertise in order to create a modern Multi-Scene-HMI solution with intuitive and haptic touchscreen support. The result is a highly perceptive User Interface that combines the best out of 2 worlds: perfect HMI design and enhanced haptic technologies.

Intuitive touch feedback of displays and devices is no longer a privilege of the automotive industry. It has already found its way into multiple application fields like industry, medicine, entertainment and many more. This is why Candera, next system and DATA MODUL have highlighted several different use cases across various industries, among them a 2D/3D excavator UI, a nautic sea map, an ultrasonic control unit, a dynamic cashpoint pin pad and more. Indeed, this pin pad supports persons with visual impairment, who can successfully interact with the UI purely based on the haptic and auditory feedback they receive from the device.

LG Electronics and Candera GmbH to present an innovative AR solution

LG Electronics and Candera GmbH to present an innovative AR solution

Linz/Austria – ‎Seoul/ South Korea, 9/11/2020 – LG Electronics Inc. is excited to announce the development of an innovative AR solution supporting various displays such as head-up display (HUD) and center information display (CID) for automotive and in-vehicle use. This modern AR solution displays situational key information like ADAS alerts, navigational hints, point of interests (POIs), or pedestrian detection directly onto the road by augmenting the real world with computer-generated visual graphics. It also supports fully customizable modeling of AR user interfaces without complicated coding to enhance the user experience (UX). This is the result of the collaboration with Candera GmbH, one of the leading HMI tool providers for automotive and industrial customers worldwide.

LG Conniro™ AR provides an intuitive user experience by augmenting the real world with computer-generated visual information.

LG’s AR solution supports intuitive AR scenes to reduce driver distraction

With the growing number of vehicles on the road the need for safety and reduced driver distraction is one of the most important factors driving the integration of AR solutions for HUDs and CIDs in the automotive market. Furthermore, whilst in the past head-up displays often were an optional or standard feature for premium cars only, in the near future they will also find their way into economy and standard vehicles. OEMs worldwide are currently exploring the possibilities and use cases of this new technology.

Based on this awareness LG Electronics Inc. situated in Seoul/ South Korea has been boosting its efforts to develop a modern AR solution that works with various in-vehicle displays such as HUD and AVN/CID. Unlike traditional HUDs displaying static information AR Head-up displays go one step further by blending in key information directly onto the lane and into the driver’s field of view. This of course requires the integration of a huge amount of vehicle sensor data, enabling a real-time projection of information, warnings and alerts. To implement these complex requirements LG Electronics has developed a powerful AR engine in order to be able to merge the real world with the digital content. LG AR engine is built upon the advanced sensor fusion framework that merges information observed by in-vehicle sensors in real time and predicts the future state of all interest objects around the car. This sophisticated signal processing framework ensures the stabilization of AR contents against vehicle dynamic motions and achieves reduced time delays, caused by system latency, between AR contents and the real world. LG’s AR engine is well optimized in terms of computational complexity, such that it achieves high frame rate in low performance system-on-chip (SoC) environments. In addition, it is also applicable to mobile devices like Android phone by using built-in mobile sensors as input to the AR engine.

LG’s AR solution features navigational hints, safety guides and an advanced POI Service

Combined with LG’s enhanced visualization technologies the result was a modern AR solution supporting intuitive AR scenes like navigational hints (route carpets, directional arrows, goal pins, POI highlights), ADAS alerts (active cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection), and many more. Currently, LG’s AR solution is ready for the market and is in the process of mass production with a number of OEMs. We believe that our technical readiness will provide better values to our customers, and mass production experience of various OEMs will further expand our business in the market” said Sukjin Chang, vice president of Smart Mobility Lab. in LG Electronics.

Candera CGI Studio makes LG’s AR solution fully customizable

To make the AR solution fully customizable for different OEM UX requirements LG was looking for an experienced HMI expert and development partner. That’s when Candera came into play. The Austrian HMI tool provider was enhancing the existing HUD with the powerful Candera render engine, to minimize latency and enhance clarity of the indicated information. “Especially when it comes to ADAS alerts or safety warnings, it is important that the information is displayed in real-time with zero delay” explains Roberto Hofer, technical sales manager of Candera. ”Incorporating further performance and latency optimizations into our render engine, we can ensure an in-time visualization of warnings as well as a pinpoint accuracy of visualized objects even at high speeds.”

AR simulator allows convenient development with recorded or simulated traces without permanent real-track necessity

Another common OEM requirement is an easy and fully customizable HUD. This was realized with Candera’s HMI design tool CGI Studio that has been developed on a user-friendly no coding approach. Indeed, CGI Studio’s ready-to use controls and automated workflows will support OEMs to customize the automotive AR solution to their personals needs without programming a single line of code.
